Thuan obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Virginia, completed his Master of Science in Molecular Biochemistry and Bioinformatics at George Washington University, and his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at Georgetown University. He is currently pursuing his MD at the University of Maryland as a member of the Maryland Medical Scientist Training Program. As an immigrant, Thuan understands firsthand the financial and mental challenges of navigating and completing the application process for graduate and medical schools. Thus, he wants to give back and help those who have been historically underrepresented in science and medicine, are economically disadvantaged, and/or immigrants to achieve their dreams of becoming scientists and physicians. Outside of studying and doing research, Thuan enjoys gardening and auditioning for plays at community theaters.
