Silvia is a third-year medical student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She was born in Managua, Nicaragua and moved from Miami to Puerto Rico to Mexico City, Mexico. From Mexico, she went to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore to get her B.S. in neuroscience. After graduating, she decided to take two gap years to take a break and recover before going to medical school. She moved to Boston and worked as a clinical research coordinator at the Massachusetts General Hospital for the department of Cardiology/Heart Failure. Silvia has always been interested in surgery and her third-year clerkship rotations have solidified her decision to pursue a career in surgery. Currently, she is debating between urology and surgical oncology (via a general surgery residency). During medical school, she has been involved in urology research. Silvia is passionate about helping the underserved and underrepresented communities of Michigan and enjoys advocating for her fellow Latinos. Further down the line, she hopes to travel across Latin America to volunteer at medical clinics and perform surgeries for those in need. Silvia is excited to help guide you through this stressful application process and hopefully come out on top!
