Naomi F. Fields is an African-American woman from Miami, FL who is passionate about mentoring, women’s health, health equity, and wellness. She graduated cum laude from Williams College in 2016 with a BA in Chemistry, concentrations in Africana Studies and in Public Health, and the Ernest Brown Africana Arts Award. During her undergraduate career, she mentored first-year students in her school’s Summer Science Program (a bridge program for first-gen and low-income matriculants); participated in the Summer Health Professions Education Program at Columbia University; performed research in the Center for Applied Genomics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and served as a teaching assistant in Kusika, the College’s West African dance & drum company. After graduating, Naomi furthered her interests in research and health policy by spending two years as a research assistant in the robust Medical Practice Evaluation Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital. During this time, she also worked with the Benkadi Drum & Dance Company, and volunteered with Community Conversations, a Cambridge, MA-based women’s health initiative. She continued mentoring via the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston and the MGH/Timilty Middle School Science Fair Mentoring Program. In 2018, Naomi matriculated at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania as a Thorington Scholar. At Perelman, she has served as Co-President of the Perelman chapter of the Student National Medical Association; participated in the OB/GYN Interest Group; received a summer research fellowship from Perelman and the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics; and continued mentoring via the Johnson Scholars Program, freelance efforts, and now, Project SHORT! She plans to become an obstetrician-gynecologist and policy advocate for women’s health and reproductive justice. In her free time, you can find Naomi going for runs, cooking seafood mac & cheese, getting her hair braided, and Facetiming her loved ones.
