Asami is an M.D. candidate at Central Michigan University College of Medicine. She was born and raised in San Jose, California. Asami has been involved in various teaching and mentoring activities since graduating from high school. She received a Bachelor's in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Biochemistry, and a minor in K-12 STEM education. She took a gap year between her undergraduate studies and medical school. During that time, she worked as a junior specialist in a genomics lab at UCSF, where she utilized CRISPR/Cas9 screening techniques to investigate mammalian regulatory elements. During medical school, she has continued to be involved in education and mentoring, as well as patient education research. In her free time, she enjoys arts and crafts, cooking, and creating digital art. She is excited to mentor individuals applying to M.D. programs!
