Dr. Yagmur Yegin is part of BASF’s prestigious PhD Leadership Development Program, a full- time role that offers a unique blend of technical and business-oriented experiences through three 8-month rotations across various divisions of the company. Her work spans both scientific innovation and strategic leadership, empowering her to develop a broad range of skills essential for impactful industry leadership. With a deep passion for food sustainability and safety, Dr. Yegin’s journey into science was driven by a desire to solve critical global challenges like food waste and environmental degradation. Her PhD research at Texas A&M University focused on designing smart antimicrobial agents and biodegradable materials to extend the shelf life of perishable goods, contributing to global food security. During her postdoctoral research at MIT, she furthered her commitment to eco-friendly solutions by developing antimicrobial films and biodegradable packaging to reduce food waste and replace harmful microplastics. Beyond her technical expertise, Dr. Yegin is deeply committed to mentorship and empowering the next generation of scientists, particularly women and underrepresented groups in STEM. She is an advocate for gender equality and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), serving as a role model through leadership and active support of young girls pursuing STEM careers.
