Valeri Jean-Pierre is a 1st year Mathematics graduate student at Michigan State university. She has a College of Natural Science Recruitment Fellowship as well as a fellowship with the GEM Consortium for her graduate studies. Her research interests overlap between math and math education which ignited her decision on pursuing a dual PhD at Michigan State. Valeri has participated in the EDGE 2020 summer program which equipped students with tools and resources for graduate school and beyond. Valeri started her math career in Brooklyn, NY as an undergraduate student at Medgar Evers College, majoring and minoring in Mathematics. Afterward, she attended the Post-Baccalaureate program in mathematics at Smith College to refine her math skills before graduate school. She also presented her mathematical research at the Joint Mathematics Meeting in 2020. She has participated in numerous conferences and has applied to many fellowships over the years. In her free time, she enjoys playing golf and tennis as well as drawing and painting. She has a strong passion for math and math education.
