Sarina Garcia is a second-year PhD student in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics Graduate Program at the University of California, San Francisco. She graduated with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas, Austin, in 2023. Her research focuses on extremely premature infants with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung illness. Sarina is currently utilizing genomic, metabolomic, and EHR data to identify potential biomarkers for personalized drug treatment, particularly in understanding the varying responses to corticosteroids. Having transitioned directly from undergrad to a PhD program, she can offer insights to students looking to follow a similar path, especially first-generation students.
