Sarah Barger is a postdoc at Yale University researching nuclear envelope dynamics. She received her B.A. from Bates College in 2012, majoring in Biology and minoring in Japanese. As an undergrad, Sarah fell in love with bench work through summer research programs at Alabama State University and Texas A & M. After college, she taught English in Japan for a year as part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. She earned her PhD from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY discerning how cells use actin and myosin to change their shape. In upstate New York, she never missed an opportunity to participate in science outreach programs with the community or judge a local science fair. She is excited to help others start the long and rewarding journey to a PhD. When Sarah leaves the lab, she can be found fly-fishing a local river or wandering an unchallenging nature trail.
