Sarah is a current neuroscience graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, interested in the neuroendocrine mechanisms regulating motivation, especially those that can become dysregulated to render an individual more vulnerable to obesity or overeating. Sarah started her academic path at community college before graduating with a BA in neuroscience and psychology from a small liberal arts college in Lake Forest, IL. As an NIH postbaccalaureate, she applied to graduate school with the help of experienced mentors. She believes many applicants have the capability to succeed in graduate school but are not accepted because they don’t have access to mentors who can guide statement writing. Without mentorship, Sarah would not have known how to apply to graduate school! She hopes to carry on the tradition of mentorship to help others on their research journey.
