Samantha (Sam) Freis is a predoctoral trainee at the Institute for Behavioral Genetics at the University of Colorado Boulder, pursuing a Ph.D. in Behavioral, Psychiatric, and Statistical Genetics in the Psychology and Neuroscience department. Before entering graduate school, Sam attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she received a B.S. in psychology with honors in 2017. After her undergraduate studies, Sam worked as a research coordinator for the Texas Twin Project from 2017 to 2019. As a research coordinator, Sam became passionate about mentorship and assisted in starting a professional development seminar for the Texas Twin Project research assistants. Sam’s research interests include using behavioral genetic and geospatial methods to examine research questions focused on genetic and environmental influences on executive functions and their relations to other cognitive functions, psychopathology, substance use, and self-regulation.
