Rachel is a PhD student in Neuroscience at University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating with a B.A. in Biology from Reed College, Rachel spent two years in a human genetics lab studying rare neurodegenerative disorders, followed by several years in a neurobiology lab focused on glial biology, neuroimmunology, and genetics of schizophrenia. She is excited to continue studying genetic and molecular processes in development and in disease, and is invested in finding treatments for patients with neurological disorders. As a Project SHORT mentor, Rachel is happy to talk about: applying multiple times, deciding what labs might be a good fit, conquering fears about networking, and getting organized to accomplish your goals!
