Madison is a current first year PhD student studying Biomedical Sciences at Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She is working under the mentorship of Dr. Johnathan Whetstine, Director of the Cancer Epigenetics Institute at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Their work focuses on identifying epigenetic factors and how higher-order genome structure plays a role in cancer tumor heterogeneity that drive genetic amplifications, impact cell cycle replication timing, and can lead to therapeutic resistance in cancer. Madison came to Temple from Saint Joseph’s University in West Philadelphia where she completed her bachelors (’19) and master’s (’21) of science in biology. Her master’s research was focused on behavioral genetics in c. elegans, performing genetic screening to investigate neuropeptide regulation of sleep behaviors. Aside from research, Madison is passionate about mentoring science education outreach and has served as a GeoKids Fellow teaching k-12 science lessons, and lead as the program coordinator of various summer science, and forensic science, k-12 camps in the greater Philadelphia area.
