Kavya is a PhD student at Virginia Tech in the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health (TBMH) program. She received her undergraduate degree from Roanoke College in biochemistry where she also minored in mathematics and was fortunate enough to have opportunities to participate in a series of research projects across the translational science spectrum throughout her undergraduate years and drove her interest in the ‘research to clinical practice’ pipeline which is heavily emphasized in her graduate school program. While her training was in the bench-sciences, she dabbled in the field of community-based participatory research as part of her Honors Distinction Project at Roanoke College and found the experience transforming. This has allowed her to find her niche currently, working on clinical and community-based participatory research in assessing physical activity impacts on children with neuromotor impairments. Kavya is also interested in continuing on to medical school after her PhD, and would love to chat about the ways that she is integrating her research in with other responsibilities to become a competitive medical school applicant. In her spare time, Kavya enjoys trying different restaurants and cuisines, playing musical instruments, hiking, and stopping to pet every neighborhood dog. She looks forward to working with you!
