Katie is originally from Memphis, TN. She graduated from University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry in 2018. For two years as an undergraduate and one year as a research technician she conducted research on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at cellular and molecular levels. She is now pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at University of Pennsylvania. She focuses on studying protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases as well as potential therapeutics for this aggregation. She is involved in outreach events with her program, including writing about science for the public and teaching science at schools in the area. Outside of lab, she enjoys reading, playing games with friends and family, and going to the gym.
