Justen is a 3rd year Biomathematics PhD student at North Carolina State University. He works with Dr. Mette Olufsen to create multi-scale mathematical models of the cardiovascular system to gain insight into the mechanisms, and potential treatments, of various types of autonomic dysfunction. He also studies how tensor decomposition methods can assist in the interpretation of local field potential data. Justen received his BA in Mathematics from SUNY Geneseo in 2018, where he spent most of his time volunteering as an EMT, and his MS in Applied Mathematics from NC State in 2020. Outside of research, Justen enjoys teaching, drinking coffee (especially with pumpkin spice flavoring), hiking, and cooking.
