Jim is a PhD student at Stanford Med in the Structural Biology program and an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. He is currently doing his first year lab rotations and is interested in applying a technique known as cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to study the three-dimensional structure of proteins. Before his PhD, Jim attended Rice University in his hometown of Houston, Texas, where he majored in Biochemistry and Cell Biology; he is a first generation, low-income student committed to increasing the accessibility of scientific education and training.
