She/her/hers

Jess (she/her/hers), is a current PhD student in the Molecular and Cell Biology program at UC Berkeley. She graduated from UMass Amherst in 2017, where she studied how bumblebee diets impact parasite resistance. After graduating, she worked at Harvard University as a research technician. Here, her primary role was to optimize a method using CRISPR-Cas9 editing of a molecular barcode to record cell lineage during zebrafish embryogenesis. Now, she studies all things mitochondria and is specifically interested in mitochondrial genome inheritance. Outside of lab, Jesss favorite activities are drawing and painting, taking hiking or backpacking trips on the weekends, weightlifting, reading, browsing Craigslist for cool furniture and making food that (hopefully) tastes good. ?
