Jerry was born in Taiwan and grew up in the Bay Area. He fell in love with neuroscience and research after working in a UCSF neuro-oncology lab during his freshman year of college. While completing his B.S. and M.S. at the University of California San Diego, he spent most of his time in the lab of Dr. Mark Tuszynski studying AAV gene therapy for treating neurological disorders. After spending 1 year in the Neuroscience PhD program at Baylor College of Medicine, he left the program for family reasons and returned to the Bay Area. Over the last 2.5 years, he has been working as an Associate Scientist at Denali Therapeutics, a biotech company focused on leveraging blood-brain barrier-crossing therapeutics for defeating neurodegeneration. He is ecstatic to be resuming graduate studies in the Stanford Neurosciences PhD Program this fall. Through this unorthodox path back to academia, he has become most interested in the role of glia in neurological disorders. Jerry is incredibly passionate about not only neuroscience, but also mentorship and giving back to his community!
