Hannah is a 4th-year Neuroscience PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Orthmann-Murphy. Born and raised in NYC, she made the trek upstate to complete her Bachelors in Biology and Vocal Performance at SUNY Geneseo. Upon graduation, Hannah spent 2 years as a post-baccalaureate fellow at the National Institutes of Health. In 2019, she joined the Neuroscience Graduate Group at the University of Pennsylvania, where her work focuses on the role of microglia in remyelination. Hannah is broadly interested in studying glia-glia interactions within the central nervous system, with the hopes that a better understanding of these interactions may contribute to the development of effective therapeutics for demyelinating disorders. A long-time glia fan, she is the recipient of a Goldwater Scholarship and a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. In addition to her work as a graduate student, Hannah competes as an Olympic weightlifter with Power and Grace Performance, and is the Founder and Executive Director of Project SHORT, a non-profit dedicated to providing mentorship for diverse and underrepresented applicants to graduate and medical programs. She previously served as the Founder and Director of TEDxSUNYGeneseo, and hopes to continue pursuing people-centered, relationship-driven work that creates meaningful and lasting change.
