Glancis Luzeena is a third year PhD candidate in Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Rochester MN. She graduated Cum Laude with a B.Tech. in Biotechnology from SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), India. Her undergraduate research focused on elucidating the biochemical basis of behavioural alterations such as anxiety, learning and memory in F1 offspring in response to in utero exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals in animal models (rats, zebrafish). She was a contributor and subsequently editor of the SRMIST Biotechnology department newsletter and recipient of the academic merit scholarship from 2016-18. Luzeena was awarded the IASc-INSA-NASI Research Fellowship Award that funded her internship at the National Center for Cell Science in India, where her research focused on the role of F-box proteins in cancer. As a PhD candidate at the Mayo Clinic, Luzeenas research aims to elucidate the evolutionary mechanisms driving pancreatic cancer progression and how these mechanisms can be exploited to control chemoresistance in patients, using existing chemotherapeutic drugs. Outside the lab, Luzeena enjoys crime shows, sketching and a perfect cup of tea. Luzeena was born in India, raised in the UAE and currently resides in the United States. She believes her academic experience in three different countries puts her in a unique position to better assist students who wish to study abroad. She is also a first generation graduate student in biomedical sciences from her family. She is passionate about guiding students with similar backgrounds through the complex application process to graduate school and contributing to racial and gender diversity in the STEM field.
