Faith was born and raised in Guyana, South America and migrated to the United States at 13 years old. Since moving to the US, she has cultivated her passion for research given the vast amount of resources available. Through this, Faith has explored several areas of research including Chemistry and Immunology, however became passionate about the complex relationship between mental health, and substance use and addiction given the pervasive stigma towards mental health in her homeland and among minority communities. She pursued a PhD in Neuroscience to tackle questions related to mental health and substance abuse and is currently a 2nd-year Neuroscience PhD Student at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is interested in understanding the impact of early life experiences on adolescent neurodevelopment. Her work focuses on psychosocial risk factors e.g. prenatal drug exposure, behavioral alterations, and environmental insults on early substance use initiation in adolescents and young adults. Outside of the lab, Faith is involved in organizations that she is passionate about including Mount Sinai’s Health Policy Program, the National Science Policy Network and March for Science NYC. Through these organizations and her research, she hopes that she will be prepared to pursue a career in science policy where she can use her expertise to contribute to evidence-based policies. In her free time, she enjoys powerlifting, reading crime/thriller novels, binge watching Netflix, and attempting to make new cuisines.
