He/him/his

Erik is originally from the Netherlands, where he completed a BS in Psychology, MS in Clinical Neuropsychology, MS in Developmental Psychology (all at Leiden University) and PhD in Developmental Psychology (in 2017 at Radboud University). In addition to research-related coursework, he completed clinical coursework and a clinical neuropsychology internship in graduate school. His doctoral research focused on neurobiological (using fMRI) and social mechanisms underlying impulsivity in adolescents with and without ADHD. While enrolled in graduate school in the Netherlands, he completed a summer research internship at UC Berkeley and a 6-month research fellowship at New York University. Erik completed a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship in Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY from 2017-2019. He examined how early-life exposure to environmental toxicants (e.g., metals, plasticizers, flame retardants) is associated with executive functioning and brain connectivity in children and adolescents. He recently (February 2021) completed an 18-month postdoctoral fellowship in Child & Adolescent Neuropsychology (50% research; 50% clinical work) at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. He examined executive functioning and brain structure of children and adolescents with prenatal alcohol exposure and conducted neuropsychological evaluations with children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental (e.g., fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD) disorders and mood and anxiety disorders. Erik is a licensed psychologist in Minnesota and recently started working as a pediatric neuropsychologist in two different child mental health clinics in Minnesota. He conducts neuropsychological evaluations with children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorders, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) and continues to collaborate on research projects on impulsivity and its neural correlates in adolescents with ADHD, and adolescents with prenatal exposure to alcohol and environmental toxicants. Given his personal and professional experience, Erik is particularly excited to work with LGBTQIA+ students, neurodiverse students and international students.
