She/her/hers

Emma is an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up on a farm in Western North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degrees in Biostatistics and Biology. Emma received her Ph.D. in Psychology (Behavioral, Psychiatric, and Statistical Genetics) in 2017 from the University of Colorado Boulder, under the supervision of Matthew Keller at the Institute for Behavioral Genetics. Emma then completed a postdoctoral research position with Arpana Agrawal at WUSM. As a postdoc, she was supported by an F32 from NIAAA and a Young Investigator Grant from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and she is currently supported by funding from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation and NIDA. Her research interests center around understanding the genetics of substance use disorders and psychiatric comorbidities. She is also interested in using genome-wide data to understand the evolutionary history of complex traits and disorders. Emma loves introducing students to the field of behavioral genetics in the large undergraduate course she teaches. She would be happy to discuss graduate school applications, finding a program and mentor, applying for funding, or anything else that will help with the process of applying to grad school!
