Emily Mroz is a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Geriatrics, School of Medicine at Yale University. She earned her PhD in Psychology at the University of Florida, where she also completed additional training in gerontology, healthcare quality improvement, and healthcare communication. Emily's research interests span aging and end-of-life issues; her passion lies in improving the experiences of individuals who are seriously ill and dying and their informal, family caregivers. Her research centers heterogeneous lived experiences by delving deeply into personal accounts and perspectives of study populations. To that end, Emily's research includes mixed, qualitative and quantitative methods to: explore recalled autobiographical memories of significant experiences, examine evidence of empathic communication in healthcare settings, investigate interventions to improve end-of-life care and care planning, and address how mortality awareness impacts self-development across the lifespan.
