Elena started her PhD in Cognitive Psychology and Sleep Research in September 2021 in the Sleep Revolution Project at Reykjavik University in Iceland. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Neurocognitive Psychology. Throughout her studies, she engaged in projects at several different labs and institutions to gain experience in different areas and learn versatile skills, such as animal research, computational neuroscience, questionnaire and cognitive test development, and more. In her PhD, Elena is studying the link between sleep and neurocognitive functioning and mental health and its neural correlates. Her current project focuses on developing a neurocognitive test battery for sleep disorders. She is passionate about translational and interdisciplinary research, as well as open science and meta-science. Outside the lab, Elena enjoys baking, pole fitness, yoga, Disney movies, board games, and everything tea-related. She is excited to work with students through Project SHORT and contribute with her experience as a first-gen, as well as previous mentoring.
